Home incentives · 2026
The homeowner tax credit ended. Florida’s incentives did not.
There is no federal tax credit for a home solar system installed in 2026. Here is what Florida still gives homeowners, and how the numbers work without it.
What changed
The 30% homeowner credit ended December 31, 2025.
The residential clean energy credit, Section 25D, was cut short by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025. Home systems placed in service after December 31, 2025 do not qualify, and that includes home batteries. The 30% credit does continue for businesses through 2027, and for nonprofits and governments as a direct payment; see all incentives.
What did not change: utility rates keep rising about 3.5% a year, and Florida still exempts home solar from sales tax and from the added property-tax assessment, and requires FPL and Duke to credit your excess at the full retail rate. The credit improved the return. The return did not depend on it.
What Florida still gives you
Four things written into Florida law and your utility's tariff.
100%
Property-tax exemption
Solar raises what your home is worth. Florida exempts that added value from your assessment, so the house appreciates and the tax bill does not follow it up.
0%
No sales tax on the equipment
Florida charges no sales tax on certified solar equipment. On a typical home system that is around nine hundred dollars you simply never pay.
1:1
Full retail net metering
FPL and Duke credit the power you send back at the same rate they charge you. Your roof runs the meter both directions.
+4.1%
Home value, per Zillow
Zillow puts homes with owned solar in our area about 4.1% higher. Thanks to the exemption above, the tax bill never sees it.
The real incentive
You stop renting your power.
A power bill is rent. It goes up every year and at the end of thirty years you own nothing. A system you own pays you back every month it runs, and it is still on the roof, still working, after it has paid for itself.
Zero-down financing typically lands the monthly payment within a few dollars of the bill it replaces. The savings make the payment. No credit required.
